Brazo's Valley Veterans Memorial Location: College Station, Texas Medium: Bronze Dimensions: Two 7'
tall figuresYear Completed: 2002 <During a lull in
combat, the cry “medic” is heard in the distance. Armed with only a medic bag and raw courage, this non-combatant
exposes himself to enemy fire and makes his way towards the distant cry. In a covered area, he finds a wounded member of his
platoon. The wound is serious. Without hesitation, he stabilizes the wound and prepares to evacuate his friend. Without concern
for his own safety and struggling under the weight of the wounded man, the medic musters every ounce of strength he has to
save his friends’ life. The Brazos Valley Veterans' Memorial is a bronze sculpture mounted upon a Texas granite base
on twelve acres of College Station’s Veteran and Athletic Park. The memorial honors veterans who have served in the
uniformed services of the United States. Its purpose is to ensure that the generations that follow us will forever recall
with pride our veterans’ sacrifice on behalf of the United States of America. For more information on Brazos Valley

New York State World War II Memorial Location: Empire State Plaza, Albany, New York Medium: Stainless steel Dimensions: 11’ high; 12’ wingspan Year
completed: 1999 <The centerpiece of the NYS World War II Memorial is a large stainless steel eagle, a national symbol of strength and
freedom. With a wingspan of 12 feet, sitting atop a 9 foot-high pedestal, it is depicted in an attack posture in front of
a 2-foot diameter globe as a representation of our defense of Democracy around the world. The sculpture
is located in the center of a large round pool of water divided into two segments, symbolizing how WWII divided the world
and represents the two theatres of the war. Names of cities, countries, islands, battles, military campaigns, years, etc.
are etched into the wide granite walls of the pool. The European theatre is located on the right segment and the pacific theatre
on the left segment. Between the pool segments, inclined stone planes have etchings depicting the story of the war, facts
and wartime quotes. Cedar hedges encircle the pools, with a cobble walk between the pools and trees to symbolize the rough
difficult road a soldier has to walk and the inability to escape the horrors of the war. Water jets create turbulence in the
pools, symbolizing the lack of peace and harmony during that period in history. Flags of the United States,
New York State and branches of the service fly above the Memorial.
