New York State Fallen Firefighters' Memorial

Location: Empire State Plaza, Albany, New York

Medium: Bronze

Dimensions: 10' high Three-Man Sculpture

Year Completed: Maquette to Monument-October 1997- September 1998

<The New York Fallen Firefighters Memorial Committee, Inc. commissioned Robert Eccleston to create a monument to honor NYS fire service men and women who gave their lives in the line of duty.

This three man composition depicts the bond which exists among firefighters.

A severely injured firefighter does not have the strength to escape a burning building on his own. He clings to his two comrades. He tries mightily to walk but cannot; it is up to his comrades to drag him through the smoke and flames. With little time to spare, the firefighter on the left takes the lead looking for the safest way out. The firefighter on the right encourages his injured comrade, trying desperately to keep him from losing consciousness.
